Least Cost Routing, or LCR is a well-established way of routing calls to a preferred provider, according to variable parameters such as time of day. The LCR function of EBCS allows flexible control of call routing with adjustable parameters that can be configured by the service provider. This allows the service provider to make the right routing choices to leverage optimum connections, while enabling and enhancing the services it offers to enterprise customers.

EBCS allows SIP trunks to be added to the session border controller, which enables enterprises to capitalise on VoIP devices in their local branches in addition to mobile connections. The SIP trunks extend VoIP beyond the enterprise firewall and eliminate the need for IP gateways when connecting to the service provider.
The combination of SIP trunking with LCR and advanced routing allows service providers to offer a wider range of individual calling packages to specific customers. For example, they can create plans that take into account call volumes to overseas branches or to popular destinations. It also allows closer integration between existing PBX solutions and the advanced mobile capabilities enabled by EBCS.
